Outpatient Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Near Athens

Prospective clients looking for an Athens treatment center will be glad to know that The Berman Center is located nearby. We serve clients living in Athens and a variety of other areas in Georgia. Our programs use a combination of evidence-based treatments and activities to meet the needs of your mind, body, and soul. We know that no two people are alike. All of our clients get an individualized treatment plan designed to help them address their unique needs and meet their goals.

One of the things that sets The Berman Center apart from other options in addiction and mental health treatment is that our programs are all conducted on an outpatient basis. Outpatient treatment services vary in intensity and offer more flexibility than traditional inpatient or residential care. Many people feel more comfortable when they can attend treatment during the day and return home afterward, as opposed to living in a treatment center for the duration of their program.

Another benefit of outpatient options for those in search of an Athens treatment center is that they’re often more affordable than inpatient care. We work with most major insurance carriers, which can help you cover treatment costs. Before your program begins, we’ll verify your treatment coverage or payment information so that you won’t have to worry about treatment bills while receiving care.

If you need to find housing arrangements, The Berman Center can help. While you do not have to stay in sober living homes to enter one of our treatment programs, we collaborate with several sober living homes nearby. When you get close to the end of your program, we will help you make an aftercare plan.

Treatment Services

If you or your loved one looking for an Athens treatment center have never been to treatment before, knowing what to expect can help. Here are the treatment services or levels of care we offer and what each program entails. If you’re unsure which program is best for you, we can help. Before you start your treatment program, you’ll get an intake assessment where we’ll get an idea of your needs, history, and goals. Then, we’ll work with you to decide on the right level of care.

Adult PHP

Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are the most intensive form of addiction and mental health treatment you can get without attending an inpatient treatment center. Group sessions are a core part of our partial hospitalization program for adults. In PHP, you’ll attend groups Monday-Friday from 10 AM to 3:30 PM daily. We use various treatment modalities and activities in group therapy sessions, including but not limited to the following:

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)
  • Mindfulness and meditation training
  • Gender-specific groups
  • Ongoing recovery coaching
  • Music and writing therapy
  • Trauma therapy
  • Process groups
  • Experiential therapy
  • Grief therapy
  • Spirituality groups
  • Personal training
  • Yoga therapy
  • Art

PHP at The Berman Center also involves two family therapy sessions per month, a weekly individual psychotherapy session, medication management, and 24/7 counselor support. Adult PHP only lasts for ten weeks, but it can have an incredible impact on your life.

Adult IOP

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults meets three days per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Starting at 10 AM on treatment days, you’ll attend process groups, skill-building groups, experiential group sessions, electives, and other relevant activities. Like in PHP, you will also attend a once-weekly individual therapy session. While PHP continues until 3:30 PM, IOP ends at 1 PM each treatment day. Additionally, our adult IOP program lasts for eight weeks rather than ten.

IOP is generally ideal for those who don’t need care as intensive as PHP, are ready to step down from a higher level of care, like PHP, or are unable to commit to PHP due to work, school, or other obligations.

Teen IOP

Our intensive outpatient program for teens ages 14-18 is a 10-week program called Ignite. Ignite is designed to address mental health concerns in teens. In Ignite, teens get an individualized treatment plan and learn important life and coping skills. Treatment will include individual therapy sessions, groups and electives, family therapy, and other activities relevant to your teen. Our elective activities for teens include but aren’t limited to the following:

  • ACT
  • Art therapy
  • Body image therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Narrative therapy
  • Yoga
  • Psychodrama therapy
  • Expressive arts
  • Life skills
  • Mindfulness
  • Meditation
  • Nutrition

We offer tutoring by professionals trained to work with students facing mental health concerns, and our academic liaison will work with your child’s school to ensure they stay on top of assignments while getting the most out of treatment. Since inpatient programs do not typically allow teens to stay enrolled in school, this is one of the advantages of choosing The Berman Center.
