THE SYMPTOMS
Signs of Alcoholism
Signs that it’s time to get Atlanta alcohol addiction treatment can differ for everyone. For example:
- Some people experience behavioral changes where they no longer hang out with friends and family; they pull away and, in their isolation, focus only on ways to consume more alcohol.
- Other people display secretive behavior, lying about activities, hiding how much they drink, and frequenting different bars every night so people don’t see how much they consume regularly.
- Some clients notice changes in their responsibilities, like forgetting to pick kids up, not going to work on time, or forgetting important family events because of the time spent obtaining, consuming, or recovering from alcohol.
Some physical signs that you might need help from an Atlanta alcohol rehab center include physical signs of addiction. This can take the form of having cravings that are so disruptive you can’t stop yourself from drinking.
Other physical signs include constant hangovers and withdrawal symptoms as soon as you cut back or try to quit drinking.
You might consider getting help from an Atlanta alcohol rehab center if you’re aware that your alcoholism is hurting yourself or those close to you, that it’s putting your job or family relationships into jeopardy, but you still can’t quit.
Similarly, it might be time to get help if you are struggling with legal or financial ramifications from your alcoholism, like a DUI or spending money allocated for bills on alcohol.
Call our team today if you are ready to turn your isolation and loneliness into community and support.

Long-Term Effects of Alcohol Abuse
The longer you avoid Atlanta alcohol addiction treatment, the more likely your short-term alcohol effects are to become long-term. This causes long-term damage to your brain function and your body:
- Liver disease
- Stroke
- High blood pressure
- Digestive issues
- Cancer
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Memory loss
- Homelessness
- Unemployment
- Family issues
Long-term alcoholism can not only inhibit your sleep but also decrease the amount of rapid eye movement sleep you get, preventing your brain from flushing out toxins and storing information. This can cause ongoing memory loss and lead to subsequent issues like snoring or sleep apnea.
Long-term alcohol abuse removes higher functions and can result in extra eating, harmful calories, and weight gain. It also dehydrates you so your skin won’t look as plump, and you’ll struggle with dark circles under your eyes and regularly face issues of ongoing inflammation.
