United Healthcare Mental Health Coverage
Effective treatment for mental health conditions and substance use disorder (SUD) is just as important as antibiotics for bacterial infections or root canals for diseased teeth. If you are living with SUD, a mental health condition, or both, it’s extremely important for you to know that effective care and a brighter future are available.
Unfortunately, numerous barriers exist between that care and clients who need to get their lives back on track. One of the most common barriers is paying for treatment. Fortunately, insurance coverage can pay for a large portion of care-related expenses. We’ll explain the type of coverage you can expect if you are insured with United Healthcare and the ways you can use that at The Berman Center.

INSURANCE COVERAGE
The Importance of Insurance Coverage for Mental Health Treatment
As important as mental health and SUD treatment are for a person’s overall well-being, the price tags can deter some people who can benefit from those services. Hour-long therapy sessions can sometimes cost as much as $200 without insurance coverage. Many inpatient drug rehab programs, which involve weeks-long overnight stays at a licensed rehab facility, cost at least $6,000 per month (and, sometimes, much more). Outpatient programs, which are offered by The Berman Center for individuals looking to move past SUD, are relatively affordable.
Having some kind of health insurance coverage can go a long way toward paying for medical treatments. Depending on what type of insurance plan you have, you might have to pay only 40 percent or less of medical expenses. You may have health insurance through your job, your parents (if you are younger than 26), your spouse, or the online marketplace.

United Healthcare’s Mental Health and Addiction Coverage
United Healthcare, like most other major insurance providers, usually offers some kind of coverage for mental health and SUD treatment. The exact amount depends on the facility where you want to receive care and the tier of your plan. There are multiple ways to customize your insurance plan from United Healthcare, but the primary way is through the company’s metal system—gold, silver, and bronze.
Gold plans from United Healthcare aren’t necessarily the best for everyone, but they are well-suited for people who have chronic health conditions or see doctors regularly. The monthly bills (premiums) to maintain a gold plan are greater relative to silver and bronze plans, but you’ll pay less when you actually receive care.
United Healthcare’s silver plans are a good middle ground between the gold and bronze plans. You may want to enroll in a silver plan if you keep up with recommended doctor’s visits—yearly physicals and dental cleanings, for example. Premiums are slightly more compared to those in a bronze plan, but costs may even out as you pay less for doctor’s visits.
Bronze plans from United Healthcare and many other insurance providers are characterized by lower premiums.

Mental Health Conditions The Berman Center Treats
Our caring staff is experienced in delivering top-tier mental health treatment for a wide variety of mental health conditions. Clients living with SUD are much more likely than those without SUDs to also have a (diagnosed or undiagnosed) mental illness. To achieve long-term recovery, it’s important to treat the entire client.
Here are just a few of the addictions our center is equipped to treat:
- Anxiety disorders
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Personality disorders
- Trauma (including PTSD)
Plenty of new clients who come to The Berman Center may not know for sure whether they have a mental health condition. A comprehensive initial assessment is part of our intake process, which is designed to uncover any undiagnosed mental health conditions.
WHAT WE OFFER
Our Programs
The Berman Center offers two levels of outpatient care for adult clients needing treatment for mental health conditions or SUD. We also offer a special program to help adolescents struggling with their mental health. Experiences are different for each client—we will work with you to find the best combination of therapies.
The Berman Center offers a specialized partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient program for those aged 14–18 who need relatively intensive mental health treatment. The Ignite program lasts between 8 to 10 weeks and features lessons on navigating the unique challenges of being a teen.
In addition to providing mental health therapies, we employ academic liaisons who can help ensure your child does not fall behind in school while attending Ignite. Attendees spend up to 35 hours per week at our facility.
